If I boot without 'nomodeset', e.g. with KMS enabled, I get
a black screen which is actually turned off.
Console is responsive to login and commands, I can also use SSH but I basically loose the LCD display. This bug happens with Arch Linux stock kernels 2.6.32 and 2.6.33 (since when KMS was added to kernel), no other packages are relevant. Affected hardware is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) Please also note that this bug was found while testing for other bugs, like The only way to boot a 2.6.32/2.6.33 kernel on this machine has been to compile it with built-in drm or to boot it with 'nomodeset' (which disables KMS, so is not acceptable). JGC has suggested to tweak mkinitcpio.conf to change module loading order but doesn't change anything (tested and tested many times). |

However today I tried booting with Arch Linux stock kernel and I get this error:
(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected.
Is the stock kernel no more KMS-enabled?
