According to the dependencies of scilab 5.x @ http://wiki.scilab.org/Dependencies_of_Scilab_5.X any version of saxon can be used. So, since java-saxon6 is no longer available scilab should be rebuilt against saxon 9. And updated. Additional info: * package version(s) extra/saxon 9.2.0.2-1 community/scilab 5.1.1-3 local/java-saxon6 6.5.5-3 * config and/or log files etc. resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... :: saxon conflicts with java-saxon6. configure: error: Could not find or use the Java package/jar saxon used by Saxon XSLT Processor (looking for package com.icl.saxon.Loader)
The former maintainer was a member of inria and should have known what he did. I guess it XSLT 1.0 is needed here.
Scilab 5.2.0 is not easily buildable. They need a "java to hdf5 interface" (see http://www.hdfgroup.org/hdf-java-html/hdf-object/) which needs java header files. I do not have a solution to make this independent for the flavor of java installed.
