Details
Description:
The title pretty much says it all. There's no relevant info in the system log, and it only happens when I'm trying to torrent something. Normal http/ftp transfers work just fine. This is also present in Ubuntu 9.10, so I don't know it could be. I'm using a Dell Latitude D820 with an Intel 3945 wireless card and the latest BIOS update (A09 as of this time). Additional info: * package version(s) * config and/or log files etc. Steps to reproduce: Get an intel card (don't know if this affects any other manufacturers) Go to isohunt.com or your favorite bt tracker Search for anything, anything at all, and try to download it. |

Forgot to add step 4: Scream in frustration as your wireless
disconnects and refuses to reconnect.

Are you sure it's your wireless card, and not your
accesspoint/router? I don't have any problems with iwl3945
wireless with recent kernels, but my accesspoint (Linksys WRT54G
v5) is known to crash with many concurrent connections. To find
out if it's your wireless card that is the problem, connect the
laptop wired to the same router and try again, if your connection
fails after a while, it's the router, if it doesn't, then it's
likely your wireless card anyways.

I'm positive it's my card. My friend who uses a Broadcom card was
able to torrent Boondock Saints on his laptop with no problem, but
when I tried to download something (relatively) legit, my wireless
went to crap.

Many reports say that this driver is not that good (as it supposed
to be). This bug seems to be resolved in the last kernel
(x.x.32.3) but I have to say that in my case I had serious speed
drops after some minutes (from 2megs to 80 kb). It turned out that
the distance from the ap was the culprit. UPDATE: my last
assertion wasn't a reality but a hope :-) At the moment I'm still
suffering of speed drops
