Description:
X starts, and when it displays something (three terminals and a clock, using twm manager), it immediately locks entire system up. The only thing I can do then is a hard reset of computer. When I restart Arch in text mode, I get a scrambled Xorg.0.log (looks like a random dump from memory) and there are some binary data in other logs, for example kernel.log. I tried to remove all video drivers except "vesa" and all input drivers except "evdev", but it is the same. When I remove *all* video drivers, X starts and generates normal logs Additional info: * package version(s) xorg-server 1.7.2-1 Output of "pacman -Q" attached. * config and/or log files etc. I have no xorg.conf. Few more logs attached (including Xorg.0.log) Steps to reproduce: I installed a fresh Arch (2009.08), did a "pacman -Syu", then installed "xorg", "xf86-video-drivers", "xf86-input-drivers", "openbox" and "obconf" - all with dependencies. I created a new user and ran "startx" from this user account. |

I successfully set the KMS. Console is awesome in 1680x1050, but it hasn't solved my problem. I ran "startx" and again I got scrambled logs (see _Xorg.0.log.old_ I attach in this post), and I don't even see any graphics at all (without KMS there were three terminals and a clock), just a dead cursor in upper-left corner of the screen.
So I've got an idea maybe I'd uninstall xf86-video-vesa and leave just xf86-video-fbdev to force use of framebuffer. This time logs weren't messed up and the system hasn't halted so I could use console normally, but X hasn't started. See attached _Xorg.0.log_
