Description:
At random times, the screen will turn off, then turn back on after some stimuli (moving mouse/hitting a key on keyboard). And sometimes it will restart like Ctrl+Alt+Bksp was hit to restart x-server after that.

This is the error in dmesg after gdm restarts when I type dmesg | gdm into terminal.
** (gdm-binary:4887): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.DisplayManager: Connection ":1.85" is not allowed to own the service "org.gnome.DisplayManager" due to security policies in the configuration file

** (gdm-binary:4887): WARNING **: Could not acquire name; bailing out
Additional info:
* gdm 2.28.1-1
* 2.6.31-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz

I have been getting this error exclusively (from what I recall) when I enter my sudo pass word for powerpill (pacman) -Syu.

Never mind; I have just confirmed that it can happen on any button press, in any context.

I have determined that it occurs definitely, upon starting my computer, the first time that I type m# in any context, and then press the return key. It may also occur with other key combinations. It is not repeatable unless the computer is restarted.

This is difficult to document, I haven't been able to track it down to any specific action or application. Often when I'm typing in the Arch forums in firefox, the crash happens. Other times, I'm just logged into Gnome and am using nautilus to browse to a directory. Another time, I simply had a shell open and was typing in it, before I had the chance to hit ENTER to run the line, the crash happened.

The work around is to downgrade gdm.

Someone in #archlinux at freenode sent me to this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/396226 when I explained what was happening. It seems to be very similar.

Eh, I wish that I could just edit my comments instead of bloating this board.

Any way, as far as I can tell, any combination of a letter followed by # and then pressing return sets this bug off for me.
