Sorry, this report is really messed up. The icon not showing in xfce settings and menu without gnome-icon-theme installed is the keyboard one. Not the printer.
So this isnt a probem with xfprint. It must be xfce4-settings for the settings and maybe xfce-panel? I dont know exactly.

Why would xfce stuff depend on gnome icon themes? doesn't xfce have their own icon themes?
Comment by Greg (dolby) - Saturday, 03 October 2009, 02:37 GMT
Well this is rather complicated and its xfce's faults. The default xfce4-icon-theme is kind of spartan. See http://omploader.org/vMmd4cA
That is with only xfce4-icon-theme and hicolor. If for example you add a launcher to the panel and you try to select an icon you are presented with many icons including a keyboard one.
It just doesnt get picked up by the xfce4 settings and not presented in the settings window. Same goes for many other icons including terminal etc.
Heres the result if you add to the above two, gnome-icon-theme: http://omploader.org/vMmd4cQ
And heres if you have installed xfce4-icon-theme and hicolor + tango (no gnome) : http://omploader.org/vMmd4cg

I dont know whats the deal, maybe it should be reported upstream too. Maybe the gnome-icon-theme does something the xfce4-icon-theme doesnt?
For example gnome depends on icon-naming-utils. Other than that i see no difference. But i dont think it makes a difference if it is installed along with the xfce4-icon-theme.

FWIW the xfce4-icon-theme hasnt been updated for the 4.6 release so it could be that upstream is recommending/suggesting using another theme.

No they just recommend to install one icon theme, e.g. gnome or tango Icon theme.

This task can be closed? The recomendation about installing some icon theme is at least mentioned on wiki.
