There is something like that in the system, but scilab doesn't seem to be linked with it:
$ locate libjava
/usr/lib/scilab/libjavasci.so
/usr/lib/scilab/libjavasci.so.5
/usr/lib/scilab/libjavasci.so.5.0.1

Additional info:
* package version(s)
scilab 5.1.1-1

Steps to reproduce:
Just install and try to run scilab.

Hi, the current version is scilab-5.1.1-2 and works for me (al least on i686)
Comment by Gerardo Exequiel Pozzi (djgera) - Wednesday, 22 April 2009, 03:41 GMT
also works for x86_64 (5.1.1-2)

do you have installed extra/openjdk6-1.5-0.1 or community/jre-6u12-1 ?

One note: the i686 package (5.1.1-2) don't have this directory /usr/share/scilab/modules/helptools/jar/ like x86_64 package.

Well, it still doesn't work for me.
If I install jre or openjdk, pacman removes conflicting java-gcj-compat.
When attempting to run scilab afterwards, I get this error:

$ scilab
Cannot find /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-gcj-1.5.0.0/bin/java

logout and login from you user account or exacute "source /etc/profile.d/openjdk6.sh" before scilab
