Hello,

I've got the rt73usb in my laptop and it used to work fine but for the past two kernels (2.6.27 and 2.6.28 stock arch kernels) it has had the problem as summised. It comes up, scans, connects to AP but just will not transfer anything from the AP. It sends some initial data as shown from an ifconfig, there's some up transfer but no down.

I just popped my bug report cherry with this as i noticed someone else had the problem and it hasn't been officially reported anywhere, so appologies for any lacking information but i find no error mesgs in dmesg or anything to post. Ket me know for appropriate information if possible.

Thanks.

Kernel 2.6.28, rt73usb and I don't have any problem.

Verify your configuration.

Hmmm okay. Configuration? Do you mean kernel. It's the stock arch kernel and it hasn't worked for me for the past 3 releases now. Currently using 2.6.28-ARCH. Oh it's also x86_64

I dumped some hwd as well in case that helps.

bash-3.2# hwd -e
Testing: kernel (2.6.28-ARCH) supports uevents

ive got a rt73usb based card, kernel 2.6.28 and 29 work ok here.

reconfigure the network. try with no encryption first.

I have a rt73 pci, it works just fine with kernel 2.6.28 and 2.6.29 using wicd, i686.
Comment by Tom Nickson (JohnnyForeigner) - Monday, 06 April 2009, 09:27 GMT
This is the x86_64 version and I don't use wicd but i'll give it a go. Also i have reconfigured the network with no encryption and it still gives me nothing. Anyone else on arch64?

No problems here.

x86_64, 2.6.29 (2.6.27 and 2.6.28 works also) and rt73usb.

I forgot...

Is it possible that you forgot to install the firmware?

Hello, sorry for the lateness. I still have this problem, I recently updated (today) I'm on 2.6.29-ARCH.

dmesg | grep wlan0
wlan0 (rt73usb): not using net_device_ops yet
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:22:3f:38:b8:c6 try 1
wlan0 direct probe responded
wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:22:3f:38:b8:c6
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: associate with AP 00:22:3f:38:b8:c6
wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:22:3f:38:b8:c6 (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1)
wlan0: associated
wlan0: no IPv6 routers present

As you see it associates to the AP no problems, it also comes up in iwconfig, even shows a few bytes sent, but i can't get a connection from it at all.

pacman -Qs rt71
local/rt2x00-rt71w-fw 1.8-3
Firmware for the rt2x00 wireless drivers

The thing is that this worked fine in one kernel but has refused to transmit any data since then. I've also previously compiled another driver, for monitor mode which didn't work but the driver did (rt73-k2wrlz-3.0.2) now fails to compile for 2.6.29. I also noticed that atleast one other person had this same problem on the forums.

If I can be of any further help let me know and i'll try and reply faster this time.

Thanks,

Tom
