I've seen similar things on my gf's msn account. Probably an upstream bug. Maybe it's fixed in the pending update release.

I have the same problem with the latest version.

But a more annoying problem is that it keeps crashing randomly.

Name : pidgin
Version : 2.5.5-1

Architecture : x86_64

Please give this some love.

This might be same bug as in http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8653

Note however that in case on pidgin.im program crashes while here it only spawns finite number of threads.

new pidgin is out (2.5.6) and in the repos, this seems to have fixed the crashes for me.

This report is classified upstream as http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8653
8653 is duplicate of http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8594 which has been fixed for 2.5.6
