With ext4 comming in the new kernel, a lot of people will be tempted to make the switch to ext4, even on their boot partition... GRUB 0.97 needs the following patch to read ext4 partitions.

This should be applied both to grub and grub-gfx.

can you please file a seperate bug against grub-gfx as it is a different package and it is in the community repo.

booting from an ext4 /boot partition only works when the initramfs has not been touched since tune2fs + fsck, ie when the files aren't yet using the new ext4 features.

yes it should work now as grub2 also started working which had the same issue.

before it was working when no autodetect was used in mkinitcpio (i.e. the fallback image) and rootfstype=ext4 was set in menu.lst. This is solved with the latest mkinitcpio + depends in testing.
