Description: ABS snapshots support
Some people have internet connection via a very evil proxy. Inside my company's network i'm limited to ftp, http, ssh and remote desktop services. Things like rsync/svn/git are totally blocked. So fetching an abs tree is not possible. Same thing goes for gentoo's portage tree which uses rsync. Gentoo however, has a workaround : you can fetch a daily snapshot ( a tar.bz2 / tar.lzma / tar.gz file via http/ftp ) of the entire tree and then use rsync locally to update local tree against the contents of the snapshot. Same thing should be possibe with abs as well, as a workaround for people with really limited connectivity. |
