Description:

At the moment the installation of wicd does not pull in the wireless_tools package in by dependy. It took me some time to find out the reason why I did not see any wireless networks at all. In my case, I'm using a Broadcom card which is driven by the kernel module b43 and manually extracted firmware located in /lib/firmware/b43.

So I have no package installed for my wifi card (like ipw2200-fw e.g.) and this is also a reason why the wireless tools were not pulled in automatically be dependency.

Possible solution:

Add depency on wireless_tools to the wicd package. Networkmanager, the famous similar daemon, depends on wireless_tools, too.

Steps to reproduce:

Install the wicd package. wireless_tools are not pulled in, so you have to install them manually to be able to see any and connect to a wireless network at all.
