Could you plead add the patch to mplayer for PulseAudio support? Also mplayer doesn't have ESD support and SDL output doesn't work for me either.

If it isnt included in the MPlayer v1.0rc2 version try the -svn one in [unstable] or submit your request to the developers of the projects. You are most welcome to open a new report if & when pulseaudio gets in extra or if support for it wasnt enabled in the configure options of the package.
