libx11 was compiled with xcb due to this request: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7784
I think it is freenx that needs fixing.

if the one who bumped it, would just read my last comments on it.
it breaks immediatly freenx that was the reason for disabling it, great now freenx is broken.

But otherwise compiz was broken, or am I missing something?

I don't know freenx at all, but it seems freeNX uses things like unix:0.0 as display device instead of :0.0. libxcb doesn't support this, neither is it in the specifications that it should work that way with a normal libX11. This was something I found on a freeNX mailinglist, replacing unix:$display with just $display would fix things here.

seems xorg-server 1.4 is requiring it. so i would also pleed for fixing nx. i'm having a look at it just now.
