Description: I had noticed that at midnight my laptop
started some heavy background work that lasts around 10
minutes, using top I noticed that the process taking so much
CPU is mandb. Searching the Forum, I have noticed that I'm
not alone, see this thread
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=72332
As the forumer camphor, I run mandb as root and got a similar output, that is to say mandb seems to make the database from scratch every midnight, instead of updating it. Additional info: * package version(s) man-db 2.5.5-1 * config and/or log files etc. This is the final part of the log I mentioned earlier Updating index cache for path `/usr/share/man/mann'. Wait...done. Checking for stray cats under /usr/share/man... Checking for stray cats under /var/cache/man... Purging old database entries in /usr/share/man/fr... Processing manual pages under /usr/share/man/fr... ..... many more lines like these ..... Processing manual pages under /usr/share/man/zh_CN... Purging old database entries in /usr/share/man/hu... Processing manual pages under /usr/share/man/hu... Processing manual pages under /usr/local/man... 13 man subdirectories contained newer manual pages. 17638 manual pages were added. 0 stray cats were added. 0 old database entries were purged. Steps to reproduce: run mandb as root. |
