not sure if this is a bug per-se, but when using the existing src directory, patches the original tarballs aren't validated either. either the original source should be validated, or the:
warning "Skipping source extraction -- using existing src/ tree"

should also have:
warning "Skipping MD5sum checking, using existing src/"
