Hiya,

I'd like to offer to host another UK mirror.

We at UK2.NET are setting up a mirrors server to offer mirrors of various open source projects. The mirror server is connected straight into our network, so will have a 100Mbps connection.

If you're happy for me to provide this mirror, I'd greatly appreciate if you could tell me the source you'd prefer I sync from (preferably using rsync) - I'll then set up the mirror and supply the URL.

Either respond in the ticket or email me directly at mirrors@uk2.net, whichever you prefer.

Cheers

David Precious

Um, perhaps I should have filed this under the Pacman project?

you could also try the arch-general mailing list

Errr ok so here's the deal. It's best to rsync from rsync.archlinux.org, which has been restricted to known mirrors. Send dale[@T)archlinux(D0T}org OR eliott{#AT#]archlinux[Dot)org the ip address your server will by syncing from, and we can enable the access. Once your server gets all synced up (it'll take a few days, heh), you can leave us the url and we can add it to the download page and default pacman mirror list.
Then you can sit back and watch your bandwidth get sucked up 8)

Simo and Eliott (and anyone else with 2 cents):

Think we could move to keeping track of new mirrors on the bug tracker? Just assign us both the ticket and we can then comment on when it's done. Easier to track than personal email. What do you think, Eliott?

Do we have a URL for this mirror yet?
Comment by David Precious (bigpresh) - Saturday, 08 March 2008, 18:22 GMT
Sorry, I think I included the URLs in a direct mail but should have put them on this ticket, my bad :)

It's available at:

ftp://mirrors.uk2.net/pub/archlinux/
http://archlinux.mirrors.uk2.net/

for copy+paste goodness:
ftp://mirrors.uk2.net/pub/archlinux/$repo/os/i686 and ftp://mirrors.uk2.net/pub/archlinux/$repo/os/x86_64

Awesome, thanks! Added to the pacman mirrorlist so it will be there on the next release.

I agree with Dale.
Doing them here also has greater visibility, so when I am busy and can't get around to them, other people can cover for me.
:P
