Description:
kvm (on core 2 duo) freezes shortly after startup.

you could try if this option helps.
kvm is experimental and check if you run also the latest bios for your board.

I have found the same problem, it occurs with kernel 2.6.24.1, when I downgrade to 2.6.23.14 the problem disappears. I wonder if it is a problem with the vmsplice patch.
