Unfortunately this and another package that I want to adopt has issues with using the provides and conflict fields as I cannot create a local repo for testing; using the instructions on the man pages for such local repo use. Further pacman itself does not seem want to handle packages with these fields unless the -S option is used.

I am currently on the irc asking if this is a known pacman issue, and perhaps tommorrow I will file a bug on this documentation/usage issue with pacman.
