Details

Description: ffmpeg has a command line option to list available formats:

-formats show available formats, codecs, protocols, ...

With the latest version, the output I get does not include any formats, codecs or protocols:

[david@darkstar ~]$ ffmpeg -formats
FFmpeg version UNKNOWN, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
configuration: --prefix=/usr --enable-gpl --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libvorbis --enable-pp --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-liba52 --enable-libxvid --enable-libx264 --enable-libtheora --disable-libamr-nb --enable-pp --enable-shared --enable-pthreads --enable-x11grab --enable-swscaler
libavutil version: 49.5.0
libavcodec version: 51.48.0
libavformat version: 52.1.0
built on Dec 15 2007 20:57:32, gcc: 4.2.2
File formats:

Codecs:

Supported file protocols:

Frame size, frame rate abbreviations:
ntsc pal qntsc qpal sntsc spal film ntsc-film sqcif qcif cif 4cif

Note, the names of encoders and decoders do not always match, so there are
several cases where the above table shows encoder only or decoder only entries
even though both encoding and decoding are supported. For example, the h263
decoder corresponds to the h263 and h263p encoders, for file formats it is even
worse.

So, did you find any fix for this?
How is it with newer ffmpeg snapshots?

If the bug is still present, and if it's an upstream bug, then it should be reported there.

I decided that finding the problem with the 2007-12-04 ffmpeg snapshot that is used for the Arch package was probably going to be beyond my abilities and so I just built a fresh ffmpeg svn checkout. I did this on the same day that I reported the bug and the -formats command line option worked as it should. I've built several more checkouts since then - the last one about an hour ago - and have had no more problems with -formats.

Indeed, I tried it myself and I confirm that it is broken with that 2007-12-04 arch snapshot, but works fine with 2008 05 05 snapshot of today.

*poke* I just hit this recently. I could bump the package to a new snapshot, but I don't have a clue if that means we need to rebuild others. Paul?

This appears to me to be fixed in the latest snapshot in testing, 20080625-1. Can someone confirm the result?
