The /bin/ntfs-3g executable has wrong permission. That doesn't allow to mount a ntfs partition by a simple user. The solution for this is to change the permission to u+s: chmod u+s /bin/ntfs3g Additional info: ntfs-3g-1.1120-1 Steps to reproduce: Mount a ntfs partition with ntfs-3g driver by a simple user. |

If you want to (u)mount removable devices (external hard drives and such), use hal (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL#Automount_NTFS_filesystems_with_write_support_.28ntfs-3g.29).
Your suggestion is a security hole, nothing more.
