Description: Since last update to version 3.4.5-1, openbox/KDE doesn't work anymore

Openbox creates an item in the login manager to access to a KDE session which uses Openbox as WM. It worked perfectly once, since last update doesn't work anymore. If I choose that session type, I'm sent back to login screen

Frankly speaking, I use Openbox only occasionally, when my xfce4 has issues. So I have no idea what is going on here. I just can say that the last update was a simple version bump and opnebox standalone works fine. I will need a bit more input here.

standalone openbox works fine here too. But when I select KDE/Openbox session, I get redirected to kdm; how do I log errors to a file?

I've had this problem too -- can run Openbox standalone, but not as a combined Openbox/KDE session. Openbox automatically installs a Gnome/Openbox and KDE/Openbox xsessions file that's added to the GDM and KDM sessions menu that launches openbox-kde-session. Not getting any errors, just a blank screen, then a refresh, then KDM again.

well, I guess that's the way the openbox guys wanna have that working otherwise they wouldn't put the file there. Let's see if the new openbox release changes things

poke, does the new openbox fixes issues

well, I fixed the problem, but I don't know whether it's related to openbox: openbox-kde-session launches startkde, which is not recognized as a command. if I put there the full path
exec /opt/kde/bin/startkde
it works. I'm using kdemod. not sure why it worked fine before 3.4.5

okay that sounds as if your PATH is borked
which shell are you using? can you trak down if your PATH is set too late, so that /etc/profile.d/kde does not get sourced when the bash loads up?
Comment by A. Decorte (Klenje) - Monday, 11 February 2008, 23:06 GMT
I'm using bash. I don't know how to track down it, but I guess you're right, since PATH includes /opt/kde/bin if I print it from within KDE, so it must be set later

okay, seems openbox has some issues with the pathes or more xsession manager has. I will "fix" it aka hack around shit ...
