lvm segfaults when used with the stock kernel. If you've got a system which uses lvm for important parts of the filesystem, then this makes booting a bit tricky.

Package versions: kernel26-2.6.6-1, lvm2-2.00.15-1, device-mapper-1.00.17-1.

This is definitely a problem with the kernel not lvm - it works okay when run from inside a chroot (and gets much less confused by it than I expected) and building a custom kernel has completely solved the problem for me.

I haven't had much luck debugging this to try and work out what's wrong with the kernel build - /usr is one of the lvm volumes so I don't have gdb or strace to help, and I can't get lvm to produce a coredump when it segfaults.

I'll carry on trying to get lvm to produce a core (and send a pleading email to the mailing list for help with this), and update this bug if I can actually get some useful information on what's going on.

Try the new initscripts package (0.6-9) and see if that fixes it.

Note that there's now a config option in rc.conf for LVM users. Make sure you set this to "yes".
