Description:
The git packages doesn't depend on libxss though you need this library to run gitk. Maybe it's sufficient to mention this dependency in the install file as done with tk.

Additional info:
This applies to git 1.5.3.7-1 from extra from the x86_64 repository. Couldn't test on a 32 bit installation.

Steps to reproduce:
Install git without having libxss installed. Installation will finish without complains and mention you have to install tk in order to run gitk. Install tk and then run gitk. It will prompt the following error:
wish: error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libXss.so.1 is included in the libxss package.

tk needs a dependency on libxss, not git.

That was a possibility that came to my mind, too.
Sorry for not having this checked.

I can confirm this, but I don't think I used the testing repository to install tcl/tk.
