Hello,

I am facing the same problem with exactly the same symptoms, behaving and error messages. I can confirm this problem has appeared after last full system upgrade.

Strange thing is that the problem problaby HW depending. I have two notebooks - HP nc6000 and Fujistsu-Siemens Lifebook S-4572. I've updated both of them but this hal issue has appeared only on FS Lifebook.

This is hwd -e output from my Lifebook. It might help.

[radovan@Zoidberg ~]$ sudo hwd -e

Ok I corrected this using a patch in ubuntu repository which correct debian bugs #456310 and maybe #457017:

Now I can start hald without issues. We only have to wait for the maintainer to check the patch... You can still check it and say if it works in your case (the patch is automatically downloaded as a source).

The PKGBUILD worked for me.
I am running arch on my Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook E8410 with a camera and NVIDIA graphics card.

The PKBUILD also worked fine for me. I am running Archlinux on my old Fujtsu-Siemens Lifebook C 2134.

@ all reporters: please do not use words "after last upgrade" ever - they mean nothing to us. ;-)

Same problem resolved on another Fujitsu Serie E8310 using the PKGBUILD provided, it seems to be related to Fujitsu hardware.

Am I stupid. I downloaded the <html>-tagged-patchfiles. My mistake, I beg your pardon.
Comment by BARRAUD Alain (TontonBizar) - Tuesday, 05 February 2008, 23:27 GMT
Problem also solved here with the PKGBUILD mentionned above on my Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook C1410 laptop.

The same PKGBUILD doesn't disturb my Toshiba A200-182 which didn't it.

Thanks.

finaly I had some time to install PKGBUILD provided by Olivier and I can confirm that 'hald' is working properly now. Thanks Olivier.

Just want to throw in my "me too"

I faced the same issue of hald not starting. Olivier's PKGBUILD fixed it for me and I'm happy again :)
Hope the patch gets incorporated into Arch soon.

I have the same problem. I cant mount my USB drives anymore. I tried to compile hal with the provided PKGBUILD but some files are missing. Any chance to see an update of hal soon?
Comment by Moo-Crumpus (Moo-Crumpus) - Tuesday, 18 March 2008, 06:35 GMT
Don't think so. This 'bug' still exists for some month. I have not seen the maintainer doing anything in this issue so far, did he?
