Description:
I'm experiencing problems with flashplugin 9.0.115.0-1: I'm using it with konqueror (via nspluginviewer, I suppose) and:
1) flash videos doesn't shows (gray boxes instead)
2) konqueror reports that nspluginviewers has crashed (signal 11) periodically, without closing the page.

Downgrading to 9.0.48.0 solves the problem

Steps to reproduce:
1) Install flashplugin 9.0.115.0 (via pacman -Syu)
2) Open konqueror
3) Go to a random site using flash
4) Kaboom

This has been fixed in KDE SVN.

Read here:
http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3162

Fixes in KDE Subversion: rev. 750896 and 750897.

this too http://www.debianhelp.org/node/12473 might be of help.

Actually, i tried patches from https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=348088 and they work fine.
(But there seems to be problems when konqueror is configured to load plugins on demand. That doesn't work.)

Could someone please post a link to the old flashplugin package? I'd like to revert but I can't find it anywhere.

I can confirm this behavior. Opera also seems to be affected.
Comment by Kevin Peters (65boney) - Thursday, 27 December 2007, 12:06 GMT
Can confirm this also, downgrading fixes problem
Comment by Łukasz Fidosz (Luk4sz) - Thursday, 27 December 2007, 15:22 GMT
There are also a problem in opera-there are a grey square in place when flash animations should be.
Comment by Łukasz Fidosz (Luk4sz) - Thursday, 27 December 2007, 15:24 GMT
Sorry for dubble I don't noticed that the sobebody reported it in opera.
Comment by Alberto Gonzalez (Luis) - Monday, 31 December 2007, 14:28 GMT
The old version has an important security problem, so downgrading is not recommended. A workaround until it is fixed is to use Kmplayer for flash (in Konqueror, not sure how to do it for Opera if possible at all):

1 - Install Kmplayer
2 - Open ~/.kde/share/config/kmplayerrc and add this to the end of the file:

[application/x-shockwave-flash]
player=npp
plugin=/opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libflashplayer.so

3 - Open Konqueror and click "Settings > Configure Konqueror...". In the new window navigate to "File Associations" in the left-hand panel and select "application/x-shockwave-flash". Click the "Embedding" tab and click "Add..". Select "Embedded MPlayer for KDE" from the new window.

That should do the trick.

Thanks to http://mikearthur.co.uk/?p=171 for the fix :)

The same in version from testing(9.0.115.0-2), but the reason is that there are completly no flash elements in konqueror.
Comment by Łukasz Fidosz (Luk4sz) - Saturday, 19 January 2008, 22:58 GMT
With flash 9.0.115.0-2 from testing and opera 9.50-0.13 I have a random freezes and white square in place when the flash animation should be, after few seconds everything goes ok.
Comment by Mikko (mikoro) - Sunday, 03 February 2008, 14:35 GMT
Can't watch almost any flash video without firefox or opera freezing :(

Hi people! Some distros have patched kde. Why arch do not patch this bug? Tpowa, why? It's so imposible?

>>Some distros have patched kde. Why arch do not patch this bug? Tpowa, why? It's so imposible?

KDEmod has patched it and Konqueror works with Flash now, so I guess the official KDE will be patched too as soon as they have time.

I can confirm that it doesn't work here either. It's strange, because upstream they have closed it as fixed. Maybe something needs to be changed in the configuration for it to work?
Comment by Vladimir Korsun (amigo) - Wednesday, 19 March 2008, 18:33 GMT
Flashplugin work fine for me after installation from adobe.com into /usr/lib/firefox (firefox already installed). Now I can see youtube. Any idea?
Comment by Alberto Gonzalez (Luis) - Monday, 28 April 2008, 15:14 GMT
Ok, I found the problem. I was using my KDE style for GTK apps and flash didn't work in Konqueror. Now I've set Clearlooks as the GTK style and flash works in Konqueror. So it seems that since flash uses GTK it needs to have a native GTK theme and not the KDE style applied to GTK apps. This can be set in KDE Control Center.

As a side note, this problem also affects OpenOffice.org, in case someone is experiencing strange problems there and doesn't know the cause.

Is what Luis says true? In such a case let the developers know about it. They most likely have tested it that way and marked it as fixed
Comment by Vladimir Korsun (amigo) - Saturday, 17 May 2008, 17:58 GMT
it works at most sites
Comment by Heiko Baums (cyberpatrol) - Sunday, 18 May 2008, 04:27 GMT
A bug report was already filed to upstream and a patch for gtk-qt-engine, which shall fix this bug (I haven't tested it, yet) was also attached. This was 4 months ago, but it still isn't fixed by upstream.

See: http://gtk-qt.ecs.soton.ac.uk/trac/ticket/51

Maybe this patch could be applied to the downstream package, until it is fixed by upstream?
Comment by Heiko Baums (cyberpatrol) - Sunday, 18 May 2008, 07:01 GMT
This is the patch, which fixes this bug, and the modified PKGBUILD, which applies this patch.

I haven't tested it with the gtk-qt-engine package from extra, because I recently switched to kdemod, but the corresponding patch and modified PKGBUILD for the kdemod-gtk-qt-engine package works.

Maybe this patch could be applied, until this bug is fixed by upstream.

Still an issue with 9.0.124.0-1?
Comment by Alberto Gonzalez (Luis) - Wednesday, 04 June 2008, 19:30 GMT
>Still an issue with 9.0.124.0-1?

Well, the original bug was fixed. Now the problem is with gtk-qt-engine, not with Konqueror. Maybe this bug should be reasigned? cyberpatrol posted the fix above and it should be easy enough to rebuild the package and close this once and for all.
