Removed patch xorg-server-1.4-mapping-changes-for-all.diff from 1.4-6 package and added configure switch --disable-config-hal to get it compiled without problems, and now everything seems to work. So careful guess might be that mapping-changes patch causes this bug.

I removed line:

xmodmap -e "remove Lock = Caps_Lock"

from my .xinitrc and everything works again with patch xorg-server-1.4-mapping-changes-for-all.
But of course now I have to disable the caps lock manually.

please try 1.4.0.90

Same problem with xorg-server 1.4.0.90-1.
Probably related to this (comment #14):

I believe this should be fixed now as there's 1.4.0.90-9 already.
Please confirm so we can close this.

ah, forgot  FS#9943  :(

ok, since this bug is old, I'm closing it as "Fixed" (because I think it was fixed somewhere before -9) and reopening  FS#9943  which is more recent.
