use "X -configure" as an alternative

To fix the /usr/share/hwd/xorgtable to give correct information, I need the id (vendor:device) of your vga card. Run "lspci -nn" and post the result here, or only where it says "VGA compatible controller". Here is a sample:

Comment by Rasat (rasat) - Saturday, 01 December 2007, 11:38 GMT
xorgtable is fixed. Run "hwd -u" to update. The sub-driver will be shown as "r128" and driver (package) as "xf86-video-r128". The driver will be fixed in version 5.2 to "xf86-video-ati"

In hwd-5.2-1 it shows

Testing: kernel (2.6.23-ARCH) supports uevents
Please wait...
HARDWARE DETECT ver 5.2 (simple mode)

CPU & Cache: Processor 0 is Pentium III (Coppermine) 800MHz, 256 KB Cache

The fglrx driver is for newer cards. The RAGE128 is about 8 years old.

Any news on this?
Comment by Cesar Alcalde (noalwin) - Saturday, 17 May 2008, 09:57 GMT
I guess that it should be "r128" or "ati" instead "fglrx" but I changed my graphic card some time ago, so I didn't checked if it still is a problem.

In the latest hwd's xorgtable its "r128".
"Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS" "1002:5046" "r128"

Driver: xf86-video-ati
Module: --

does hwd 5.3.4-1 fix this?
Comment by Jan de Groot (JGC) - Thursday, 06 November 2008, 22:56 GMT
Please don't use hwd for xorg configuration, I doubt it will give correct configuration with xorg-server 1.5.
Comment by Thayer Williams (thayer) - Sunday, 07 December 2008, 19:34 GMT
hwd now provides basic support for xorg-server 1.5. Looking through the comment history, it appears that rasat fixed the xorgtable some time ago and this should now be taken care of. Unless I hear otherwise I'm going to close this ticket soon.
