I'm wondering if the gensplash package is still useful and/or if it still works. I'm mainly asking because one of its makedepends, klibc-beyond, is no longer in community repo. If gensplash no longer work, we might as well remove it too (we should wait the maintainer's opinion before doing so).

gensplash is now renamed to fbsplash while fbsplash patch is renamed to fbcondecor: http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/fbcondecor/#history
There is fbsplash package in Unsupported that is a replacement for gensplash and doesn't need a patched kernel.

at this moment http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?do_Details=1&ID=13541&O=0&L=0&C=0&K=gensplash&SB=n&SO=a&PP=25&do_MyPackages=0&do_Orphans=0&SeB=nd is only package that works. Roman, what we do now? Answer dtw to removev gensplash and put fbsplash in community?

Yes, fbsplash should just replace gensplash.
Moreover, fbsplash package can be named splashutils (as original tarball) :-/.
There's also splashutils-lite which I think may be useful as alternative package.
Also, I haven't found any references to utils from miscsplashutils in splashutils sources - are they still needed as a dependency? :-/
Oh, and the new homepage is http://fbsplash.berlios.de/

gensplash is still in community and klibc-beyond cannot be found anywhere.
If this thing is dead, just remove it totally, it is not even worth moving to unsupported.

dtw: Could you remove this if it's no longer useful/working?

It's gone now, I think.
