$ xawtv
This is xawtv-3.95, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.23-ARCH)
xinerama 0: 1600x1200+0+0
X Error of failed request: XF86DGANoDirectVideoMode
Major opcode of failed request: 137 (XFree86-DGA)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (XF86DGAGetVideoLL)
Serial number of failed request: 69
Current serial number in output stream: 69

The output from "xinerama" on wasn't there before the upgrade.

It still runs due to the -nodga switch but then the 'overlay' mode won't work. 'grabdisplay' is okay but I hate it due to excessive cpu usage.

Is the problem still occuring?
Comment by Jens Adam (byte) - Saturday, 17 May 2008, 19:12 GMT
Yup, no change. I've switched to tvtime.

What videocard did you have with this bug? It seems nvidia drivers stopped supporting DGA a while ago.

I use all kinds of ATI cards, with the free drivers.
I might try the experimental xawtv 4 branch.

Is this still an issue with xorg-server from testing? I remember checking dependencies for DGA support in this version.

I might be able to tell in a few days. I run testing with xorg-server and the input drivers in IgnorePkg at the moment because of catalyst. I know the HD4850 works with both free drivers but right now I don't have time to switch and test. Do they support XVideo by now?
With my current software/driver combination starting xawtv results in a black screen and lockup. Zapping X didn't work all the time before anyway, so getting back to KDM involved a hard reset.

I'm running xorg-server 1.6 with catalyst 9.4 now and the DGA messages are gone. Once I start xawtv the display goes black and I have to switch to vc/1 and back to fix it, but that's probably catalyst's fault.

Output:
This is xawtv-3.95, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.28-ARCH)
xinerama 0: 1152x864+0+0
WARNING: couldn't find framebuffer base address, try manual configuration ("v4l-conf -a <addr>")
v4l2: WARNING: framebuffer base address mismatch
v4l2: me=(nil) v4l=(nil)
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-ledfixed-medium-r-*--39-*-*-*-c-*-*-*" to type FontStruct

Tomorrow I'll test it on another machine with a different tv card and nvidia-173xx drivers, but I consider it fixed so far.

Output on i686/non-testing/nvidia-173xx (minus the "Generic Event Extension" stuff):

This is xawtv-3.95, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.28-ARCH)
xinerama 0: 1440x900+0+0
WARNING: No DGA direct video mode for this display.

As I said before, "grabdisplay" mode sucks, but it's usable.
