Description: After upgrading to xorg-server in [extra], my LCD laptop screen flickers when using the open source radeon driver (from xf86-video-ati). It doesn't matter whether 3D acceleration (glx & dri) is en- or disabled.

While using vesa, no flickering appears.

My hardware: ATI Radeon 7500 mobility.
lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS200/RS200M AGP Bridge [IGP 340M] (rev 02)

Additional info:
* package version(s)
xorg-server 1.4-5
xf86-video-ati 6.7.195-1

* attached config and log files:

- working xorg.conf (with vesa driver)
- not working xorg.conf (with radeon driver)
- (WW) section of Xor.0.log with radeon driver and enabled 3D acceleration

Steps to reproduce:
use ATI Radeon 7500 mobility with radeon driver

My problem is pretty similar only I have a matrox g450 - when I use 'mga' driver it only produces a couple of diagonal stripes - display is useless until I use 'vesa' driver.

Oh,Yes. I have the familiar bad experience. I have IBM R40 (with Radeon 7500). Now I can't start GDM, which seems restart again and again. I don't use any xorg.conf BTW. Downgrade to xf86-video-ati 6.7.193-1 works (with xorg-server 1.4-4).

this thread talks about the problem
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=39544
it looks like a driver problem
and it's fixed in git
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13149

would be great if you can add this patch to the package

hope this links are helpful

Should I file a separate bug for my matrox problem?

I have a similar problem. Please look at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=297763
I tried xf86-video-ati-6.7.195-2 with no success.

I tested the 6.7.195-2 package and it doesn't fix the problem.

My problem is exactly the one described by Logan Buesching on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/150361

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 600m with a 1400x1050 display
my lspci
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] (rev 02)
