Hi,
Since I use ArchLinux, I also use yaourt that adds functionnalities to pacman. I think it worth including those features in pacman. One thing that yaourt can do, is to install AUR packages (after building them with makepkg) directly, taking care of dependancies and so on. That is, I only need to type 'yaourt -S aurpackage' to install the aurpackage found in AUR. For me it is the killer-feature of ArchLinux and I couldn't immagine to switch to a distribution that cannot allow it. So why not add support for source repositories in pacman. Source repositories would be like package repositories, encept that instead of containing build package, it would contain PKGBUILDs. I know that we have already a CVS repository for AUR, but I would prefer source repositories, then I don't have to have the full AUR tree when I'm only using some little parts sometimes (Yes, I'm running out of hard disk space, even that counts) Here is my suggestion. i don't ask anyone to implement it, and I may someday send you a patch (for that, I'll need time, something that I lack at the moment). of course if you are really interrested, I don't prevent you to do that either. In addition, building packages DIRECT from the AUR is a terrible security hole and will never be a feature of official Arch tools.
In addition, 'srcpac' already exists which has somewhat the same features you suggest. Maybe try patching that - pacman will never have this feature
