Description: after upgrading the synaptics driver to version 0.14.6.99-1, the trackpoint (the red dot in the middle of the keyboard i can use joystick-like instead of the touchpad) of my ibm thinkpad doesn't work anymore. The touchpad still works.

While upgrading the synaptics package, these packages have also been installed:
- xf86-input-mouse (1.2.1-1 -> 1.2.3-1)
- xorg-server (1.2.0-5 -> 1.4-4)
...and some more, of course, but I guess, these two packages might have something to do with the problem.

Here are some log entries of /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
[...]
(II) LoadModule: "synaptics"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input//synaptics_drv.so
(II) Module synaptics: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 4.3.99.902, module version = 1.0.0
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 2.0
[...]
(II) <default pointer>: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
(--) touchpad auto-dev sets device to /dev/input/event6
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/event6"
(--) touchpad touchpad found
(II) 3rd Button detected: disabling emulate3Button

pacman has displayed some installation instructions for the synaptics package, but everything was already configured that way on my system, so I did not change my xorg.conf.

please check your device in xorg.conf file, protocol and device uri are important.
while updating to xorg 7.3 it's possible that the config is not working anymore

The problem is with the CorePointer value. I have the same problem, and switch that value. Now the touchpad works, but the usb mouse don't
this is my serverlayout:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Xorg Configured"
Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "USB Mouse" "AlwaysCore"
InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer"

EndSection

Yes, must have something to do with it. I found out that I can switch between trackpoint and touchpad like that:

"CorePointer" => touchpad works, but trackpoint is dead
"AlwaysCore" => trackpoint works, but touchpad is dead

@tpowa: protocol and device uri are exactly the same as shown in the installation instructions during the installation of the new synaptics package. By the way, where does this new version 0.14.6.99-1 come from? On Peter Osterlund's website, the developer of the synaptics driver, version 0.14.6 is still the latest one.

fixed

just change "CorePointer" for "SendCoreEvents"

now it works: this is my serverlayout:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Xorg Configured"
Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
# InputDevice "USB Mouse" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "USB Mouse" "SendCoreEvents"
#InputDevice "Touchpad" "AlwaysCore"
InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer"
