Details

Description:
I did a fresh install using the 2007.08-2.core iso.
It ships with the 2.6.22 kernel.
First thing I did after that was install iwlwifi 1.1.0-3 from the extra repo.
However the modules were installed in lib/modules/2.6.23-ARCH (which I don't have).
I think iwlwifi 1.1.0-3 should depend on kernel26>=2.6.23 instead of just kernel26.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
kernel26-2.6.22
iwlwifi 1.1.0-3

* config and/or log files etc.
N/A

Steps to reproduce:
Do a fresh install using 2007.08-2.core.iso
Do not install kernel 2.6.23
Do a pacman -S iwlwifi.

this is not intended to do so

Why shouldn't kernel modules have versioned dependencies on the kernel? I do it with fglrx - it's transparent, won't hurt, and ensures a situation like the one described in the report above won't happen.

I mean, for example, for iwlwifi to _work_, it needs kernel26 to be at least 2.6.23 - isn't that the whole POINT of versioned dependencies?

no it is not, because it doesn't help here

>= depends are useless because the kernel bumps and you can install a kernel with higher version always.
