I installed archlinux on a fresh hard-drive that had never had an operating system installed on it. When I choose to automatically setup the partitions (and it happened under manual partitioning as well), the system fails to install a boot sector. The Grub install then fails, and no scripts are created for editing either. I had to install Windows first, and then use the archlinux install to wipe it out and repartition.

Reason for closing:  Works for me
Additional comments about closing:  Cannot reproduce. This may be a bug with cfdisk. I will try to find space to include fdisk as well.

You mean cfdisk fails to initialize the partition table? Or do you mean that GRUB fails to install into the MBR?

It was cfdisk I'm guessing...when selecting the automatic partitioning (which I'm guessing uses cfdisk), it simply didn't create a boot sector. It did seem to create the partitions just fine though. Could this be a bug with cfdisk?

Hmm, okay. So it was only if you chose the Automatic Partition option?

I'll take a look, but I don't have any bare/unformatted HDs to test on.
