Try changing /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, change "hicolor" to "gnome" and you should have gnome icons again. I changed the workaround for broken icon themes to fallback to hicolor in the last release, but it seems not every possible icon is in that theme.

Fix worked for me too - also fixed gnome-control-center.
