Description:

Two things I noticed since upgrading to Gnome 2.20...

1. The upper Gnome panel inherits an ugly black border if anything overlaps its edge. This doesn't happen to the lower panel; not yet sure about side panels. See first screenshot.

2. When a search bar is selected and a Murrine theme (or any other that highlights the border of a selected search bar) is used, the highlighting doesn't go all the way around the bar. See second screenshot.

These look like problems with the widgets rather than the DE itself so I suspect the new version of GTK is at fault.

Steps to reproduce:

- Start up Gnome and click on the main menu, then close it. Where the menu overlapped the top panel, you'll see a black border 2 pixels wide that wasn't there before.

- Switch to a Murrine-based theme, open Epiphany (or some other GTK application that uses a search bar), and click on the search bar. The highlight won't go all the way around it.

Still getting some of this with certain themes, though not as badly.

well as you can see the chances that the Archlinux devs will fix this are very low. maybe you should consider adressing to the upstream ones instead.
