Reason for closing:  Won't fix
Additional comments about closing:  gconf-merge-schemas doesn't support empty schemas with only a short closing tag in it.

How do you call gconf-merge-schema in this case? I haven't seen this bug before and the code doesn't make these things possible at all: the schemalist tags are stripped from the original files and the new schemalist tag is written only once.

I have this at the end fo the pkgbuild (just a copy from the gnome pkgbuilds, except I replace $pkgname with compiz because of the package name being with -git, and I didn't want that:

mkdir -p ${startdir}/pkg/usr/share/gconf/schemas
gconf-merge-schema ${startdir}/pkg/usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas ${startdir}/pkg/etc/gconf/schemas/*.schemas
rm -f ${startdir}/pkg/etc/gconf/schemas/*.schemas

Attached the the resulting compiz.schemas.

It's a bug in the original schema. The file contains <schemalist/> tags, gconf-merge-schema doesn't generate these tags, neither does it remove them. I won't add support to gconf-merge-schema to work with empty schemafiles that only have <schemalist/> tags in them.
