I can confirm this 100%. Affecting i686 and x86_64 equally.

I've tried with/without hicolor-icon-theme and cannot reproduce this error. I've tried under openbox/pekwm.

Anyone who is able to reproduce this, could you install strace, and run nitrogen with "strace nitrogen"

It appears to be working ok now, at least for me...I cannot reproduce it anymore either..

Got it. Kill gnome-settings-daemon, then try..=) strace log attached.

So.... what were the conditions you reproduced it in?

Can't seem to get gnome-settings-daemon to stay dead while in gnome, keeps respawning...so..
1) login with openbox, etc..
2) kill gnome-settings-daemon
3) ensure it stays dead.
4) run nitrogen by specifying a directory containing images after the command. for me, ~$ nitrogen wallpaper/

I can confirm this error as well. I also can add that it probabily isn't gnome-settings-deamon, since gnome isn't installed on this computer. Strace log attached.
