DetailsDescription:
The installation of LibreOffice (in my case the libreoffice-still package version 7.5.7-2) updates /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache the following way: Before the installation: application/pdf=chromium.desktop; text/plain=org.xfce.mousepad.desktop;vim.desktop; After the installation: application/pdf=chromium.desktop;libreoffice-draw.desktop; text/plain=libreoffice-writer.desktop;org.xfce.mousepad.desktop;vim.desktop; Expected entry for text/plain after the installation: text/plain=org.xfce.mousepad.desktop;vim.desktop; or maybe text/plain=org.xfce.mousepad.desktop;vim.desktop;libreoffice-writer.desktop; Explanation: Almost nobody edits or views his plain text files with LibreOffice Writer. As desktop managers may use the first entry to be the standard application for opening the file, putting the entry at the end of the list (as the installation does for pdf) is the better choice, if libreoffice should appear in text/plain at all. |

Arch doesn't do any configuration at all regarding mime types. It's the user's job to set their preferred default applications.
