I cannot reproduce this locally with love 11.4-1 which depends on
mpeg123 1.31.3-1 - opens fine without error

demonicmaniac, you're out of date. The latest version of mpg123 is
1.32.1-2, and has a patch that would cause exactly this.

This is actually caused by an upstream change in mpg132 1.32.
