DetailsDescription:
This happens since one of the recent updates. After fresh install everything worked. Whenever I fetch new mails with thunderbird, it freezes and I need to kill it. This is what the backtrace is telling me: *** glibc detected *** /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/thunderbird-bin: free(): invalid next size (fast): 0x08dbbe00 *** ======= Backtrace: ========= /lib/libc.so.6[0xb7573c06] /lib/libc.so.6(cfree+0x89)[0xb75758c9] /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6(_ZdlPv+0x21)[0xb7703871] /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6(_ZdaPv+0x1d)[0xb77038cd] /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libwidget_gtk2.so[0xb64efd4e] ======= Memory map: ======== 08048000-0805c000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 459274 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/thunderbird-bin 0805c000-0805e000 rwxp 00013000 08:01 459274 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/thunderbird-bin 0805e000-08e00000 rwxp 0805e000 00:00 0 [heap] b1d6b000-b1d71000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2535059 /usr/lib/libfam.so.0.0.0 b1d71000-b1d72000 rwxp 00005000 08:01 2535059 /usr/lib/libfam.so.0.0.0 b1d72000-b1d77000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2687026 /lib/libacl.so.1.1.0 b1d77000-b1d78000 rwxp 00005000 08:01 2687026 /lib/libacl.so.1.1.0 b1d88000-b1d8d000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2533800 /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/glib20.mo b1d8d000-b1d98000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2722904 /usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/libfile.so b1d98000-b1d99000 rwxp 0000b000 08:01 2722904 /usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/libfile.so b1d99000-b1e1a000 rwxp b1d99000 00:00 0 b1e1a000-b1e1f000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 475352 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libxpcom_compat_c.so b1e1f000-b1e20000 rwxp 00005000 08:01 475352 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libxpcom_compat_c.so b1e20000-b1e3b000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 475341 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libwallet.so b1e3b000-b1e3c000 rwxp 0001a000 08:01 475341 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libwallet.so b1e3c000-b1ee4000 rwxp b1e3c000 00:00 0 b1ee4000-b1efe000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2706426 /usr/share/fonts/TTF/tahoma.ttf b1efe000-b1eff000 ---p b1efe000 00:00 0 b1eff000-b26ff000 rwxp b1eff000 00:00 0 b26ff000-b2700000 ---p b26ff000 00:00 0 b2700000-b2f21000 rwxp b2700000 00:00 0 b2f21000-b3000000 ---p b2f21000 00:00 0 b3000000-b3004000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2687010 /lib/libnss_dns-2.6.1.so b3004000-b3006000 rwxp 00003000 08:01 2687010 /lib/libnss_dns-2.6.1.so b3006000-b300c000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 475263 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libmsgsmime.so b300c000-b300d000 rwxp 00006000 08:01 475263 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libmsgsmime.so b300d000-b3011000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 475262 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libmozgnome.so b3011000-b3012000 rwxp 00003000 08:01 475262 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libmozgnome.so b3012000-b3049000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2534774 /usr/lib/libnssckbi.so b3049000-b3052000 rwxp 00037000 08:01 2534774 /usr/lib/libnssckbi.so b3052000-b3086000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2534773 /usr/lib/libfreebl3.so b3086000-b3087000 rwxp 00034000 08:01 2534773 /usr/lib/libfreebl3.so b3087000-b3088000 ---p b3087000 00:00 0 b3088000-b3888000 rwxp b3088000 00:00 0 b3888000-b3889000 ---p b3888000 00:00 0 b3889000-b4089000 rwxp b3889000 00:00 0 b4089000-b40d1000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2534777 /usr/lib/libsoftokn3.so b40d1000-b40d5000 rwxp 00047000 08:01 2534777 /usr/lib/libsoftokn3.so b40d5000-b4141000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2534780 /usr/lib/libnss3.so b4141000-b4146000 rwxp 0006b000 08:01 2534780 /usr/lib/libnss3.so b4146000-b4167000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2534775 /usr/lib/libsmime3.so b4167000-b4169000 rwxp 00021000 08:01 2534775 /usr/lib/libsmime3.so b4169000-b418e000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2534776 /usr/lib/libssl3.so b418e000-b4190000 rwxp 00024000 08:01 2534776 /usr/lib/libssl3.so b4191000-b41a4000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 475342 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libmailcomps.so b41a4000-b41a5000 rwxp 00013000 08:01 475342 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libmailcomps.so b41a5000-b4200000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 475240 /opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/components/libpipnss.so b4200000-b4204000 rw/opt/mozilla/lib/thunderbird-2.0.0.6/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 14151 Beendet "$prog" ${1+"$@"} Additional info: * package version(s) * config and/or log files etc. Steps to reproduce: Launch thunderbird and fetch mails |

Do you have any extensions installed?

Thunderbird should normally not be using any gnome-vfs stuff at all, which is shown in the backtrace though. This does either imply that we have to deal with a custom build or binary extensions.

I think I have something that is related. I'm using the official thunderbird package, even though rebuilding does not help. My crash happens at startup, but I activated the automatic mail check. If I remove my ~/.thunderbird/ dir it starts and seems to work. Attached is the backtrace. I'm using testing, but on another machine that also runs testing it works fine.

Looks like you're using the enigmail extension. Try to deinstall it and try again. If that seems to fix the problem, try updating/rebuilding your enigmail package.

For me it's not, since the update that added the gtk fix. I was about to write it =)
