With nvidia-drm.modeset=1 (or nvidia_drm.modeset=1) cmdline kernel behaves as before (CONFIG_SYSFB_SIMPLEFB not set). You can grep "The simpledrm driver will not be probed" in dmesg output to certify.

Yup, simpledrm was just noise, problem is a freak local misconfig.
