Description:
During the process of SystemD running startup units, the screen goes black, likely due to the backlight being turned off by the driver. This occurs in the TTY, no graphical environment is started.
This is not caused by systemd-backlight restoring a brightness of 0, this behavior occurs with said unit masked.

This behavior occurs in the kernel version 6.1.4. It does not occur in 6.3.9.

Additional info:
Hardware: ASUS ROG GX531GM Laptop, i915 backlight
Note: Attached logs were produced on the linux-g14 custom kernel. I have however reproduced this on the same versions of stock kernel, this is not the cause of the issue!

Steps to reproduce:
- Boot the system
   journal.log (113.2 KiB)

Have you identified which series/commit in the kernel introduced the issue or which series/commit resolved the issue?
Does the behavior occur in the current package versions linux-lts 6.1.38-1 / linux 6.4.3.arch1-1?

I've not found out which commit in the kernel causes this.

This does occur with the stock linux 6.4.3.arch1-1 kernel. It does not happen on linux-lts 6.1.38-1.

As hinted at by @loqs, this looks like an upstream kernel regression. General advice for debugging kernel regressions [1]. It's definitely not an Arch packaging issue which means you might have to report it upstream to the relevant kernel folks. Please let us know what you find out.
