Description:

On startup the iwl4965.ko kernel module can't load the firmware file. Following error message appears in the error.log:

After a reload of the kernel module with:

rmmod iwl4965
modprobe iwl4965

everything works again.

This problem occurs since an update to kernel version 2.6.22.1-3 and it still exists.

Yesterday I updated my iwlwifi driver to version 1.0.0.1-1 but the problem still occurs.

I am having the same problem with iwl3945 . Boot pauses on the module load for a few minutes and then continues. Must unload and reload the module to get it functioning.
dmesg: iwl3945: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2
kernel26 2.6.23.9-1; iwlwifi 1.2.0-1; iwlwifi-3945-ucode 2.14.1.5-2

It seems that it is a problem of the Kernelconfig.
/sbin/mkinitcpio -k 2.6.23-ARCH -c /PATH/TO/CONFIG -g /boot/IMAGENAME

Attached the working config(fallback) and the one that isnt working.

There is simply no reason to add the 'net' hook. The 'net' hook adds network modules to the initramfs, which makes absolutely no sense unless you boot from network (which I assume you don't, especially not with wireless). Remove the net hook and rebuild your initramfs. If you feel you need your wireless before / is mounted, (which you don't) add the firmware file to initramfs.

This is not a bug, simply misconfiguration.
