There has not been a release to this package since 2021 and it is still broken. Since we have yt-dlp (which works) in the repos, can youbtube-dl just be dropped?

I'm currently using yt-dlp as a replacement.

As for the lack of release, I can't say whether yt-dlp is equivalent in all cases, but a lack of a release may not necessarily be grounds to drop it by itself. Many packages are actively maintained but choose to no longer create releases, instead expecting users to use the latest git master. Of course this isn't very convenient for package maintainers...

Haven't used youtube-dl in a few years myself due to problems like this going unpatched for long periods at a time.

I highly recommend using yt-dlp instead and aliasing that to youtube-dl.
