I'd like to know if the package i uploaded is used/downloaded by others.
It makes maintaining packages more fun/rewarding.

I think votes/userrating should alway be a leading factor to decide if a package should go to COMMUNITY, but taking the popularity/downloads into account doesn't hurt IMHO.

Yeah it's a good idea. It will give a better idea of the packages on going use.
I might vote for a package then forget about it and never use or install it again.
Continued downloads would show that a package is still alive though.

Definitely a good idea, especially since I've accidentally voted for packages accidentally (damn yaourt)...

Download requests for tar files do not get processed by the aur code.
Thus some ugly 'process the apache logs and update some sql table' type hack would be required.
