Details

Description: after updating sane to version 1.2.1, I can’t scan a document anymore from a HP OfficeJet 4650 printer with Simple Scan (it shows a “Document feeder empty” message). Reverting to sane 1.1.1 makes it work again.

Additional info:
* package version(s): 1.2.1-1 to 1.2.1-3
* config and/or log files etc.: a HP OfficeJet 4650 (Wi-Fi multifunction) printer

Steps to reproduce:
Turn on the printer and wait for it to connect to the Wi-Fi local network
Insert a document to be scanned
Run Simple-scan (or any other scanner software, I guess, but this is the only one I have tested) and click on “Scan”.

It should start the scanning process on the printer, but with sane 1.2.1, it shows an error message window with “Document feeder empty” written into it and won’t scan.
It will scan as expected with sane 1.1.1, so this is not a bug coming from Simple Scan 42.5 or the printer itself.

Actually, there is a “fun” thing that makes scanning not working…

In the Simple Scan window, after lookup for scanning devices, it shows a list with two printers (while I have only one):
– my printer’s name with an ID between brackets (such as “HP OfficeJet 4650 [12a34bc]”) → does not work (see the description).
– my printer’s name alone → works perfectly fine, even with sane 1.2.1.

So, it was just a wrong choice of printer made by Simple Scan. 😅 I wonder why… Thanks to the guy who helped me to find out about it!
