The package "rawtherapee" provides two binaries, rawtherapee
and rawtherapee-cli. The proposal is to separate those
binaries into two independent packages.
One important usecase for rawtherapee-cli is to process jobs unattended in scripts. For example, via inotify a new raw image (or processing queue) is detected, and rawtherapee-cli is invoked. Another scenario is cron invoking rawtherapee-cli e.g. at night. This typically (well, at least possibly) happens on a headless machine, be it a file server or a dedicated processing "workhorse". It is deemed a good practice to try to avoid unnecessary dependencies on those machines. A dedicated rawtherapee-cli package would allow to install this binary on headless machines without pulling in a bunch of GUI dependencies. The very same concept is to be found with "handbrake" and "handbrake-cli". So the question is, is this possible without two much of a maintenance burden? Kind Regards, Joe |
