I use a ~30GB xfs partition sdb2 mounted as ~/.cache and hours ago it got corrupted causing some apps to crash. It is xfs V5 on a Samsung SSD, created only a month or two ago using Gparted with default options, no RAID or LVM or encryption. Below I attach journalctl -b -2 -x spanning the entire boot when this happened and another one with next boot. fstab options are as follows: /home/V/.cache xfs defaults 0 0

This cache was under some load, with Firefox with many tabs, some terminals open, maybe about 5GB used. I restarted my window manager which is Enlightenment. When it finally restarted all my apps were gone. Then I noticed ~/.cache is no longer showing in my Thunar. I didn't investigate further but shortly rebooted. Upon next boot this sdb2 partition refused to mount, then also refused to xfs_repair because of dirty log. So I disabled it in fstab and haven't mounted or touched it since.

I will keep this partition off for now - tell me if there's anything else you need. Should I report this upstream? Attached is the journalctl.

It could also be a hardware problem. For example, Samsumg SSD reliability has been in the news lately [1].

But yes, you could try reporting to the linux-xfs mailing list [2]. Probably also worth trying to see if you can repro on non-zen, earlier, mainline, etc. Please let us know what you find out.

We've had no other reports and upstream didn't bite. I don't know how popular xfs is in Arch circles but I suspect not very. We can reopen if anything comes up in the future but for now there's no point in keeping this ticket alive.
